A Heritage Sydney Home, Redesigned For Dining Among The Treetops

A collection of unsympathetic renovations had still left this relatives household in Woollahra, Sydney, in a perplexed condition. The successive ‘mish mash’ of kinds experienced stripped the residence of many of its authentic capabilities, leaving the pokey residing and kitchen area locations with confined natural gentle and – most frustratingly – hadn’t taken advantage of the sweeping views over the park.

When Caitlin Parker-Brown, director of interior layout organization Parker Studio, was introduced on to the undertaking, she was tasked with producing a new floor ground layout within the home’s new footprint, which includes a new rear extension intended by Chris Kokkinis of Ergo Architecture

The new addition to the Victorian-model property now embraces the environment it’s in, with a powerful target on character and the bordering treescape, alongside with a dreamy muted colour palette.

‘We did not want to more than style and design or above decorate the space as it has this sort of a putting see,’ describes Caitlin. ‘It wasn’t required to consider away from that.’

So, rather than design an inward-focussed place, she switched the emphasis to the encompassing treetops, and developed a house that would act as a backdrop to the leafy cover further than.

‘It’s all in the color palette and components,’ she suggests. Natural oak floorboards and crisp white walls established a up to date and stylish layout foundation, upon which textural and refined paint and substance finishes for the kitchen area joinery and benchtop had been overlaid.

The kitchen area island, which sweeps about in an arc at a single finish is a micro-cement finish, although the kitchen area joinery is a white-washed timber veneer with a quite delicate wood grain. ‘This provides a wonderful hand-concluded search and truly feel, which was in line with our vision to develop an inside that is sympathetic to the landscape,’ Caitlin suggests. ‘We employed muted colours, bushy pinks and blues during the areas to stability out the natural backdrop.’

In the original portion of the property, Caitlin worked on retaining and reinstating heritage character.  Nowhere is this a lot more noticeable than the powder space and mudroom – Caitlin’s favourite areas in the residence. ‘We went wild with colour and sample and the conclude result actually paid off,’ she states. ‘It’s this kind of a wealthy and inviting place to be in.’

The tumbled checkerboard marble ground tiles are a highlight in these rooms ‘It provides the entry of the home that outdated earth charm it the moment experienced just before you stage into the gentle and ethereal modern day extension at the back again of the house,’ Caitlin describes. ‘It’s a fun distinction.’
